Design and Technology
At Widden Primary School, children aspire to dream big and see the possibilities within Design and Technology (DT). We show them that DT can lead to exciting careers and opportunities.
Our Design and Technology curriculum is designed to equip our children with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-evolving technological landscape. Our curriculum empowers children to achieve their full potential by developing innovative solutions to real world problems. Sustainability in our Design and Technology encourages our children to create innovative solutions using eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient processes, and responsible waste management to protect the environment for future generations.
Achieve
Our Design and Technology curriculum empowers children to achieve their full creative potential, through a strong understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to face real world challenges. Our curriculum ensures that children learn a number of key skills across the disciplines, learning about the achievements of designers and engineers around the world.
Resilience
We build resilience through our progressive curriculum that enables children to embrace experimentation, learn from mistakes and refine their ideas through perseverance. We learn about the challenges that designers face and how adaptations are part of the design process to achieve the very best outcome.
Progressive
Our Design and Technology curriculum is built upon small steps, ensuring that children build up their knowledge and skills, resulting in purposeful and successful products. We give the children opportunities to investigate and evaluate products before carrying out focused practical tasks. The children then design and make their own products which are later evaluated.
Community
We celebrate the contributions of designers and engineers from all backgrounds and cultures to ensure that everyone sees themselves reflected in the subject. Our curriculum highlights historical and contemporary figures from diverse communities, ensuring representation and inspiration for all pupils. Our DT curriculum emphasises collaboration, inclusivity and shared innovation to create solutions that benefit society.
Diversity
We celebrate diversity, ensuring that all voices, perspectives, and cultural influences shape the design process. This enables us to incorporate different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences to create inclusive and successful solutions, serving a wide range of users fostering creativity, equity and a meaningful impact. We learn about a range of diverse engineers that are relevant to our learning.
Equity
Through equity we provide every child with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed regardless of background or ability. We strive to create an environment where every child feels valued and empowered to participate and be a successful designer.
