PSHE/RSE

At Widden Primary School, children aspire to be independent, confident and responsible learners. Through a well-rounded PSHE curriculum, we will promote emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-awareness, while encouraging children to become active participants in society. British Values will be seamlessly integrated into all aspects of learning, fostering a deep understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect, and how these values shape both our school community and the wider world.
Widden Primary schools use the Jigsaw scheme of work to deliver PSHE. Jigsaw holds children at its heart, and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw 3-11 properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation
Achieve
Children become well-rounded citizens that adhere to British values and grow into confident, compassionate, and engaged citizens who understand the importance of respect, fairness, and community. By fostering high expectations and a curriculum that considers the diverse nature of the school, children will gain the emotional intelligence and skills required to thrive.
Resilience
By embedding resilience throughout our PSHE curriculum, we equip children with the skills to handle adversity, build inner strength, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Our aim is to create a resilient school community where children feel empowered, supported, and ready for the future.
Progressive
The curriculum is designed to provide a clear curriculum that provides learning that builds on prior knowledge and key skills, yet enhancing the learning to deepen knowledge. Our PSHE curriculum is dynamic, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving needs of students and society.
Community
We create a supportive, inclusive, and empowering environment where every individual, regardless of background, develops the skills, confidence, and resilience to thrive in life. We celebrate and embrace diverse cultures, fostering a deep understanding, respect, and appreciation for different perspectives, ensuring that all members of our community feel valued, heard, and empowered to contribute positively to society.
Diversity
A truly inclusive and diverse PSHE curriculum ensures that all students feel seen, valued, and empowered, regardless of their background, identity, or lived experiences. It prepares children to navigate an increasingly globalized world with respect, empathy, and cultural awareness.
Equity
All children deserve access to a high quality PSHE education, providing support and challenges tailored to their individual needs. Our curriculum recognises that different children face different barriers and provides the necessary support to create a truly level playing field.
