RE
At Widden School, Religious Education aims to equip pupils with the knowledge, experiences, understanding and integrity which will allow them to be part of a multi-faith society. In line with the Gloucestershire Agreed syllabus for RE we follow an exciting and ambitious curriculum from Reception to Year 6. Each topic has a question to focus the learning, which then has a set of steps providing progression and continuity across the school. The year is peppered with special days [eg Diwali/ Eid Day] which provide pupils with an opportunity to examine a specific area in more detail, developing the children's knowledge and understanding of the religions of their classmates.
RE is an important part of developing and promoting children’s spiritual, moral, cultural and social understanding of the religions in school and in the wider community. We aim to ensure all children are respectful and curious about the world around them and that they gain an understanding of what people believe and the difference this makes to the way they live. We nurture awareness of the diversity in our community by working with our children to enable them to express their own ideas, ask questions, reflect on their own beliefs and respond to what they discover so they develop a positive sense of self and others. Diversity, community and integrity are at the heart of our curriculum encouraging all children to show respect to one another. We aim for all children to leave Widden School equipped to navigate our complex world and have the courage to make positive choices in society.
